Transport & Airport Transfers in Italy
Renting a car in Italy includes the cost of theft insurance, one-way rental fees, additional charges or local fees, such as mandatory road taxes or winter-tire fees and not to forget the rental deposit. Driving in Italy is another nightmare which we recommend you avoid.
Hailing a taxi at an Italian Airport is quite a battling adventure, queuing up is mandatory and when you get one after some 30 minutes in line, there is always the risk of ending up with a high rated fare due to detours or heavy trafffic, especially if you are going into busy cities or distant towns and regions.
Hailing a passing taxi does not work in Italy. You have to wait at a taxi rank or phone for one. Calling a taxi is tricky and you can expect some extra Euros on the meter when the taxi arrives, as the driver is allowed to turn on the meter when leaving to meet you...and this is from wherever he departed from.
If you do happen to hop in a taxi, our advice is to stick to licensed ones. If you get a single person fare, do not hesitate to say no if the taxi wants to pick people up on the way or if the taxi driver wants 'extra money for traffic', even if you agreed on a price before the trip. Added to that is the communication problem if you do not speak the local language or the taxi man is not multi-lingual. Learn how to say your address and say the amount you are paying out loud to avoid confusion. Public transport is even worse.
Pre-booking private airport transfers in Italy is less costly, less stressful and a more than relieving alternative which is most definitely recommended for your ski, hotel, holiday transfers and sight-seeing excursions in Italy.
